Let’s Have a Party! | Concert

KCPT and Artful Sailor Productions present a concert party with Christa Holbrook and Greased Lightning to benefit the KCPT Christa Holbrook Youth Education Fund at Key City Public Theatre.

I never kissed a bear,
I never kissed a goon;
but I can shake a chicken in the middle of the room,
Let’s have a party, Ooooo !

Goodness gracious, great balls of fire! Last year, Port Townsend’s rockabilly trio, Greased lightning raised the roof on the Key City Playhouse and this year they are back again to raise the roof, a ruckus, and funds for KCPT’s Christa Holbrook Youth Education Fund! The fund serves to build a youth education program that brings the creativity and passion of theater to the lives of Jefferson County students, and inspires the kinds of careers and lifelong participation in the arts that Christa Holbrook embodies.

With reknowned artist/singer and KCPT staff member Christa Holbrook herself fronting the band, this year’s musical theater party is really gonna be somethin’ else! Christa’s swoonderful rendition of songs such as Brenda Lee’s All Alone Am I or her jumpin’ interpretation of Big Joe Turner’s Flip Flip and Fly reincarnate the spirit of vintage Rock ‘n’ Roll.

The group is lead by Raven. Calling himself “The Rockin’ Fossil,” Raven’s known for his numerous appearances in past KCPT productions, musical concerts and zany onstage spontaneity. He claims to be living proof that fossils can still rock ‘n’ roll.

Holbrook and Raven as a vocal duo will revive classic songs of the 60’s such as Ben E. King’s Stand By Me. The other band members, bass player Salty Sue and drummer Peter “The Beater” Ross sing as well, giving the ensemble four part harmony. By the time they get around to singing The Animals’ We Gotta Get Outta This Place, that’s about the last thing anybody’s gonna wanna do because the party’ll be in full swing!

It will be an evening of heartfelt celebration and uplifting entertainment; a regular rockin’ roller coaster ride of emotion, nostalgia, and fun- all with Christa Holbrook, Raven and Greased Lightning at KCPT.

Known onstage and at her business as Salty Sue, Pami~Sue Alvarado, bass and vocals, is originally from Virginia and has lived in Port Townsend for 23 years. Even though her father was a musician, she discovered music later in life when she became fascinated by the ukulele. As a founding partner of The Artful Sailor with Raven she performed in their ukulele duo and went on to play bass with The Hobo Spiders and then Greased Lightning. Salty Sue first appeared on the  KCPT stage in October of 2022.

Peter Ross, drums and vocals, has been singing and playing with various bands throughout the Pacific NW for decades. He makes the long haul up from Aberdeen, WA where he lives and works as a custodian. Peter started performing with Greased Lightning in 2012 and played at KCPT October of 2022. When not drumming and sweeping, Peter is busy with his wife, church life and health products. He loves PT and is ecstatic about being back at Key City Theatre.

Raven, guitar, piano & vocals, band leader long time PT resident and 1982 founder of Greased Lightning, used to practically live in the KCPT playhouse; so many shows was he in. But now, he practically lives right next door at The Artful Sailor where makes sails, teaches and keeps his beloved wooden boats.  It was a joy for him to return to the KCPT stage last year with the band and he is even more delighted to be back again this year contributing his energies towards raising funds for The Christa Holbrook Youth Education Fund. When not sailing or making sails and music he loves riding his golden bicycle.

Christa Holbrook, vocals, has lived in Jefferson County for 23 years. She holds a B.A. from Central Washington University where she studied Theatre and Musical Theatre. Christa frequently performs with numerous bands such as; The Eagle Mountain Stringband and The Kevin Mason & Sound Advice Band, as well as intimate concert performances with pianist Linda Dowdell and guitarist Tim Holbrook.. She has been a staff member at KCPT for more than 10 years, where she has performed in several musical theatre productions and concerts; The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Cinderella, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Spirit of the Yule, Murder Ballad, Daddy Long Legs, An Evening of Holiday Favorites, The Rise and Fall of the Entire World as Seen through the Eyes of Cole Porter. Christa will appear during KCPT’s  2023-24 Season in Gunmetal Blues and a new holiday show by Doug Given. Throughout her studies and career in the theatre Christa has always understood the importance of creating artistic spaces and opportunities for the youth of Jefferson County. She is delighted to join forces with Greased Lightning for the benefit of The Christa Holbrook Youth Education Fund, so Let’s Have A Party!
