The Key City Public Theatre Scholarship Fund makes annual awards to support emerging theatre artists who are continuing their education in pursuit of a theatre career. Proceeds from refreshments sold at Key City Playhouse help fund the awards.

Theatre artists who are continuing their education in pursuit of a theatre career are encouraged to apply to the Key City Public Theatre Scholarship Fund.

Scholarships typically ranging from $1000 to $1500 are awarded annually to graduating high school students, college students and adult theatre artists to support tuition costs. Awards are available to actors, directors and playwrights, as well as set, costume, sound and lighting designers who have participated in a Key City Public Theatre production.

Scholarship awards are based on the artistic quality of the applicant’s work, their potential for future excellence, and the appropriateness of their continued education toward the individual’s artistic growth.

KCPT Artistic Director Denise Winter notes that she has been “thrilled” with the quality of the applicants since the scholarship program was launched in 2006.

One scholarship winner, PTHS graduate Madeline Levy, having completed her studies at Whitman College, went to work as a professional stage manager with prestigious opera companies such as Seattle Opera and Wolftrap. Ben Rezendes (Stella Adler Studio) is a PTHS graduate based in NYC with credits for his stunt work in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live (2024), Disney’s Hocus Pocus 2 (2022), and the Oscar-nominated film, The Holdovers (2023), his IMDB can be found HERE. 

Chimacum High School graduate, Rosaletta Curry, received several scholarship awards to support her undergraduate studies in the drama program at Ithaca College,as well as at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. She has worked as a professional actress in both London (where she is a member of British Actors' Equity Association) and in the US, including here at KCPT.

Other past award recipients include Danny Willis (Cornish College of the Arts), Emily Huntingford (Whitman College), Rose Burt (Carnegie Mellon Summer Theatre program), Jessica Reid (Central Washington University), Torrey Berkson (Stella Adler Studio for Acting), Alex Lovett (Cornish College of the Arts), Anna Smith (Adelphi University), Lydia Raymond and Jennifer Ewing (American Academy of Dramatic Arts).

Proceeds from refreshments sold at Key City Playhouse fund the scholarship awards program.
