The Sy Kahn Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund

The Sy Kahn Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund -- named for a Key City Public Theatre (KCPT) participant with a lifetime history as a theatre educator -- was established to ensure that scholarships are maintained as a strong component of KCPT’s education programs. Artistic Director Denise Winter was compelled to establish this endowment in the spring of 2008 to honor Sy Kahn for his work in our community, his deep commitment to education and love of theatre. Sy Kahn was a poet, professor, playwright, and director who served as Board President and a director of numerous productions at Key City Public Theatre.

Jefferson County actress and graduate of Jefferson Community School Torrey Berkson (at left in photo) was the first recipient of the Sy Kahn Memorial Scholarship Award for Excellence in Theatre. The $1,000 award was presented on May 14, 2008 by his widow Janet Baker Kahn (at right in photo). This award was funded by a special gift to highlight the establishment of the endowed fund.

The endowment is maintained in coordination with the Jefferson Community Foundation. Donations to this fund can be made HERE

The David Hundhausen Scholarship Fund

Established in 2022 by the Hundhausen Estate- longtime theatre professor, David Hundhausen created this endowment through a legacy gift to ensure funding for scholarships with stipends for students and apprentices pursuing a career in the theatre. A former board member and artist at KCPT, David and his wife Pat were passionate theatre-makers and subscribers, and their work on behalf of KCPT leaves a legacy along with this endowment which will serve decades of emerging artists.

The endowment is maintained in coordination with the Jefferson Community Foundation. Donations to this fund can be made HERE

The Christa Holbrook Youth Education Fund

KCPT's annual fund for Youth Education initiatives is established and named for Christa Holbrook, KCPT staff member and resident artist. This fund honors Christa's 10th anniversary season with the theatre.

Her personal story and dedication to enriching the lives of our community's young people exemplify the mission of our Youth Education programs. This fund will continuously fuel accessibility, technology, and teaching artist salaries and trainings to ensure today's students engage with theatre arts at all levels, as participants, as audience, and in career exploration.
