Not Fade Away: Songs and Stories of Buddy Holly
Buddy Holly emerged from Lubbock, Texas in the mid-1950's and blazed across the rock-and-roll sky like a comet. Before his untimely death in an Iowa plane crash at the age of 22, he and his band The Crickets created a series of pop music masterpieces and the template for what a rock band looks and sounds like, influencing later artists such as Bob Dylan, Elton John, and The Beatles. In an evening that combines humor, toe-tapping, and tears, musician and historian Joel Underwood returns to Key City Public Theater to tell the story of Holly's humble beginnings, two years as a rock icon, and sudden, tragic death in 1959. Who was "Peggy Sue"? What movie inspired "That'll Be The Day"? It's an evening at the theater that leaves audiences saying, "Oh Boy"!
About Joel Underwood and Speaking of Music
Musician/historian/storyteller Joel Underwood returns to KCPT with his triptych of performances that walk the audience through a gallery of American popular music in the twentieth century. Underwood's revamped Woody Guthrie, his Hank Williams, and newly-added Buddy Holly evenings provide classic songs like "This Land Is Your Land", "Your Cheatin' Heart", and "That'll Be The Day" to sing along with, as well as the often tragic stories behind them. In addition, they examine the high price of musical genius and the toll it can take on the artist and loved ones in their orbit.

Spend an unforgettable evening filled with Broadway favorites, heartfelt performances, and the incredible talents of Kat Agudo, accompanied by Linda Dowdell, along with her friends Kyle LeMaire, Morgan Bartholick, and Maggie Jo Bulkley who will make this a night to remember.
Most importantly, this evening is an opportunity for our community to surround Kat with love and support as she begins the difficult journey of rebuilding after this devastating loss.

3 Playwrights face the impossible mission of penning a play to submit to the audience. Live writing to audience prompts will result in 3 short plays, one of which will be performed by actors waiting in the wings. See the craft of theatre unfold right before your eyes and play a part in the development of the next great play by local playwrights.
