The portable Dorothy Parker
By Wendy McLeod
The Portable Dorothy Parker, an anthology from which this production draws its title, was first published in 1944, and was compiled by Dorothy Parker herself. It contains short stories and verse about the complexities of relationships, falling in and out of love, social faux pas, and growing old, wrapped neatly in Parker’s signature ironic sense of humor. This production, like its namesake, carries on that tradition, adapting and arranging Parker’s material, including some that wasn’t included in the anthology, to introduce her to audiences of today.
