Move It On Over: Songs & Stories of Hank Williams
On New Year's Eve, 1952, despite his fragile health, 29-year-old Hank Williams took off on an ill-planned overnight journey from Alabama to Ohio to save his flailing career. He did not survive. In "Move It On Over", music historian/folksinger/storyteller Joel Underwood brings the same energy KCPT audiences remember from his Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan performances back to our stage, weaving the events of that mysterious, still-controversial night with Williams' early life. Throughout the ride, we sing along with favorites including "Your Cheatin' Heart", "Hey Good Lookin'", and "So Lonesome I Could Cry". Sometimes hilarious, sometimes tragic, Underwood and his guitar showcase the story of one of America's most important musical voices.
About Joel Underwood & Speaking of Music Series
Musician/historian/storyteller Joel Underwood returns to KCPT with his triptych of performances that walk the audience through a gallery of American popular music in the twentieth century. Underwood's revamped Woody Guthrie, his Hank Williams, and newly-added Buddy Holly evenings provide classic songs like "This Land Is Your Land", "Your Cheatin' Heart", and "That'll Be The Day" to sing along with, as well as the often tragic stories behind them. In addition, they examine the high price of musical genius and the toll it can take on the artist and loved ones in their orbit.

Most importantly, this evening is an opportunity for our community to surround Kat with love and support as she begins the difficult journey of rebuilding after this devastating loss.

3 Playwrights face the impossible mission of penning a play to submit to the audience. Live writing to audience prompts will result in 3 short plays, one of which will be performed by actors waiting in the wings. See the craft of theatre unfold right before your eyes and play a part in the development of the next great play by local playwrights.
