Directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Twilight) and starring Heath Ledger, Emile Hirsh, and Victor Rasuk, this 2005 biographical drama follows the lives of the Z-Boys, a legendary group of teenage surfers from Venice Beach, California. Set in the 1970s, it portrays how this ragtag crew revolutionized skateboarding by applying aggressive, wave-riding styles to empty backyard swimming pools, transforming a hobby into a global sport. Written by Stacy Peralta (one of the original Z-Boys) and featuring cameos by numerous well-known skaters, the film is rooted in a true story that changed skateboarding forever.
