WHEN THE MOMENT COMES

DramaforaChange, is proud to present the moving and impactful story-telling and theatre play Ruhi’s Story: When the Moment Comes at Key City Public Theatre in Port Townsend, WA, October 23- 24th 2026. This powerful play produced and acted by Nava Sarracino tells the true and harrowing stories of Bahá’í women and men persecuted in Iran after the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

The play is based on the life and experiences of Ruhi Jahanpour, an Iranian Bahá’í woman who was imprisoned for refusing to renounce her faith. Through Ruhi’s story: When the Moment Comes, the theatre piece explores the resilience and courage of individuals who transcend incarceration, torture, and execution for their beliefs. The production focuses on the lives of those who endured unimaginable hardship, including ten of Ruhi’s cellmates, who were executed by hanging on June 18, 1983.

Ruhi’s Story: When the Moment Comes is a poignant reflection on the intersection of justice, gender equality, and religious freedom, providing a voice to those who continue to suffer for their faith in Iran and beyond. It shines a light on the enduring fight for human rights.

Nava Sarracino, the producer and lead actor, shared, “In a world full of darkness, the resilient Baha’is of Iran shine out as beacons of hope and examples of what it means to truly love all of humanity as your own family. It is our hope that this performance will inspire reflection on how to pursue justice in an increasingly divided world. As Ruhi Jahanpour said “Baha’is don’t respond to violence with violence they pursue justice through love”
