The 2008 Expansion of Key City Playhouse

Our new lobby space was ready for our
Open House on Feb 12, 2008.
The steps lead to our expanded theatre space.

Key City Public Theatre (formerly Key City Players)
has leased the intimate Key City Playhouse since 1992, but its 46
seats have been unable to accommodate audiences that just keep
growing. Those 46 seats have been filled consistently over the
past two years, with both the 2006 and 2007 seasons of mainstage
plays averaging 100% capacity.
This
winter, KCPT leased the adjacent space and a crew of volunteers led
by board president and retired contractor Ian Keith built a new
entrance, spacious lobby, restrooms, concession stand and box
office. The remodel frees up space in the theatre itself for
20 more seats, a larger light and sound booth, and enhanced
emergency egress and wheelchair accessibility.
The long-term Theatre on the Move!
campaign to build a new 150-seat theatre on KCPT’s property
in uptown continues, but in the meantime, this expansion to a
66-seat theatre will accommodate audiences much more comfortably and
allow KCPT needed room to grow. |
