General Information

Key City Public Theatre, formerly Key City Players, is celebrating 50 years as Port Townsend and Jefferson County’s premier theatre.

Key City Public Theatre’s mission is to foster artistic expression that entertains, educates and engages our community while developing an accessible and relevant theatre that produces new works, contemporary plays and innovative interpretations of classics that captivate, challenge and celebrate our audiences and artists.

Our year-round programming reaches 6,000 audience members annually, due to the efforts of 400+ volunteers both on and off stage. Through education, outreach and family programs, the performing arts are brought to life for the broadest regional audience.

Building on our successful history, in 2006 we began planning for a new 150-seat theatre to triple our capacity and better serve our community.

Key City Public Theatre is located in Port Townsend, Washington, the Olympic Peninsula’s Victorian Seaport and Arts Community. Our playhouse is located in the heart of the historic downtown district, adjacent to Point Hudson Marina and within walking distance of dozens of fine restaurants and many charming inns, hotels and bed-and-breakfast accommodations.

For Port Townsend visitor information, see www.enjoypt.com and www.ptguide.com.

We are funded in part by the Port Townsend Arts Commission, a local agency that supports public programs in the arts.

Key City Public Theatre is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Artistic Director

In 2005, Key City Players hired Denise Winter as Artistic Director, bringing an end to our long all-volunteer history and ushering in a new era of professionalism.

Denise Winter brings nearly 20 years of professional theatre experience to KCPT. Before arriving in Port Townsend, she served on the artistic staff of six Tony Award-winning regional theatres and performed in 48 states, plus Canada and China, with companies such as the New York City Opera, The Children’s Theatre Company and American Repertory Theatre. She currently tours the U.S. as production stage manager for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes.
